Sensei
Sean started training in martial arts informally at the age of 3 and transitioned to formal training in Tae Kwon Do and Tien Shan Pai at age 7 in Landover Maryland. By age 11, he began teaching in order to better improve his own understanding of martial arts. Due to his dad getting a new military assignment, Sean moved to Temecula, California where he began training in Kenpo and met Grandmaster Paul Taylor at a training event with the Shaolin monks. After relocating back to Maryland, Sean earned his Kenpo black belt in 2007 and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2011. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for most of his military career and did some training in Shorinji Kempo. He also began training in other styles of martial arts such as Muay Thai, Filipino martial arts (FMA), Goshin Ryu Jujitsu, and Capoeira while enlisted.
During his time in the military, he met Soraya while on leave visiting the martial arts school of an old friend. In 2018, Sean separated from the Marine Corps and began teaching martial arts full-time while also working as a nuclear security officer and private hotel security at various locations. Sean now strives to make EMAC the number one family martial arts training center through community outreach and his own self-improvement through martial arts training.
Sensei
Having been raised in Nepal and Indonesia until she was 12, Soraya began her martial arts journey upon her arrival in the United States. Originally intended to help her build meaningful relationships as well as to ease the initial anxiety and culture shock of the move, she quickly fell in love with the arts and began teaching within the year. In 2015, Soraya was invited to take a trip to Huntington Beach, California with her instructor to observe a tournament. There, she was officially introduced to Grandmaster Paul Taylor and was quickly taken under his wing. By the age of 15 she was head assistant instructor and running day-to-day operations of her dojo. She achieved the rank of 1st degree black belt at age 16 under the guidance and instruction of Grandmaster Paul Taylor. Two years after receiving her black belt in the Shaolin Kenpo style, she lived and trained in Thailand at a Muay Thai/Boxing facility for close to four months. At age 21, she tested into her 2nd degree black belt beside her longtime instructor, close friend, and business partner Sean Broughton. Now 24, and co-owner of EMAC,
Soraya strives to continue creating safe, comfortable and exciting spaces for students to growand thrive in the martial arts.
Grand Master
By 1986, Paul Taylor was a high-ranking Black Belt and moved from New England to California, beginning a journey that would touch literally thousands of future Kenpo martial artists.
He was a key figure in building one of the largest martial arts organizations in the United States, with locations spanning from coast to coast.
He was also instrumental in enrolling, teaching and producing thousands of martial artists and hundreds of Black Belts – many of whom are still teaching and spreading Kenpo around the country to this day – by creating the largest Martial Arts Instructors College ever.
Taylor also created, organized and managed the largest one-day martial arts tournament on the West Coast, which has been in existence for almost twenty years and still goes on to this day.
Taylor was also responsible for the organization and successes of two record breaking events involving the Shaolin Temple of China’s Shaolin Monk Demonstration Team. In both instances, the Shaolin Temple reported the largest crowds they had ever performed for in North America.
In perhaps one of his proudest accomplishments, Taylor was acknowledged as a “True Kenpo Master” personally by Professor Nick Cerio in a ceremony in Southern California. Taylor went on to coordinate and administer Professor Nick Cerio’s International Martial Arts Association during its most successful period of membership.
Taylor was promoted to his 8th degree Black Belt in 2001 at the legendary Shaolin Temple of China.
In 2010, Shihan Taylor was promoted to 9th Degree Black Belt with Shihan Joseph Nesta as a witness.
In 2012, Shihan Taylor was promoted to rank of 10th Degree Black Belt and given the title “Grandmaster” by 10th Degree Black Belt and Grandmaster Shihan Joseph Nesta.
